IN THE CITY 2008

Location: Blue Cat Cafe, 17 Shaw Rd, Heaton Moor, Stockport, SK4 4AG

MONDAY TUESDAY

ITC is the world's premier unsigned music event! A bold statement, but a true one: over fifteen years, In The City has seen now-legendary gigs by Oasis (Manchester Town Hall - 1992), The Chemical Brothers (Jabez Clegg, Manchester - 1995), Daft Punk (Aboard the Fitzcarraldo, Dublin - 1996), Coldplay (Cuba Cafe, Manchester - 1997), The Darkness (The Kings Arms, Salford, Manchester - 2002) and Nine Black Alps / Arctic Monkeys (Manchester Academy - 2005) Bands we guess you've heard of right?

And never forget, though all manner of wonderful things make up our annual music industry shindig, at the end of the day it's all about the music. As ever, we have our own fringe event OUT OF THE CITY here at the Blue Cat. Entry is free and doors open at 7.30pm - stage times below.

THE YELLHOUNDS onstage 9.15pm Myspace

The Yellhounds are a five-piece from Manchester, their lyrics are bluesy, their tunes are dust blown and loose-limbed, able to climb and sway and fall and stagger around after a gallon of whiskey. There are aspirations in the words, a lot of 'good times will come' and a refreshing lack of claustrophobia and tension - Glasswerk

In 2008, The Yellhounds (formerly Fultons Point) are going to play hard. A run of gigs at some of Manchester's central venues, UK wide festivals and more videos and recording sessions are planned. Any bands / artists who organise their own shows and clubnights please get in contact as the 'Hounds are always looking to play to new crowds and in different environments.

They are dedicated musicians, with a smoky charisma and an intelligent perception of where they could get to and how they are going to do it. Add some catchy rhythms and interesting lyrics and you've got a damned good night out.

The Yellhounds are Brendan Cartwright on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Sean Cartwright on lead guitar, Tom Carver keys and fiddle, Gaz Howard on bass and Carl Atkin keeping it all together from the back on drums.

KARL ELAND onstage 8.40pm Myspace

Karl Eland is a singer/songwriter from Preston, Lancashire. Influenced by classic singer/songwriters such as Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty & U2 - with a handful of original songs Karl began playing small concerts at the world famous Adelphi public house in his hometown of Preston.

Then in the autumn of 2005, Karl self released his debut single 'Radio Song' which received airplay on BBC Radio, and gained him a lot of press interest and critical acclaim from such voices as Phil Brown of the BBC Radio folk show 'The Drift.'

Building on this success, in 2006 Karl toured extensively across Lancashire, Manchester and Liverpool, including a headlining performance at Garstang Folk Festival and a support slot supporting legendary cockney rock and rollers Chas and Dave at the world famous Cavern Club in Liverpool.

2007 saw Karl make the inevitable shift south playing the London acoustic circuit, including venues such as the Halfmoon at Putney, The Spice of Life in Leicester Square, The Bedford at Balham and The Regal Room in Hammersmith.

Karl also played UK's Stockton Riverside Fringe Festival as one of the headlining acts on the acoustic stage before achieving a semi-finalist position in the UK Song Writing Contest.

In November of 2007 Karl then played a set at Preston's SONIC festival as an headlining local act.

Through dedication and hard work, over the last 3 years Karl has built a very strong and loyal following in his home town of Preston and with a little help from Myspace his fan base has also grown steadily across the UK and internationally, and it continues to grow.

In June of this year Karl relocated to Camden in London for a 6 month residency of the capital in which he can be seen playing open mics/gigs practically every night of the week at one of Camden's/London's many live music venues.

TUESDAY 7 OCTOBER

Band Members: 5 cheeky people making tunes and having fun.

Sounds Like: Feisty, varied delightful mixtures to move you in many ways.

STUART (ex Mug) onstage 8.40pm Myspace

He says: Just Stuart grew out a back catalogue of songs written by Stuart that were not aired by other projects. So I thought what the hell! I like them, someone else might. I've been writing songs for so long I have a collection of styles and sounds all based on my favourite topic, people on the edge of society, misfits like myself. Listen, learn and be tolerant. Scallies are people too!!!!!!
